Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu

Released during the winter season of 2020, "Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu," a title that translated into Spanish would mean something like, "Since pain is unpleasant for me, I think I will put all my points in defense," but which is better known simply as "Bofuri," is the anime adaptation of the series of novels of the same name, written by Yuumikan and illustrated by Koin. The anime is a work produced by Silver Link Studios, which has a total of 12 episodes, and at the time of this review has already announced a second season coming to premiere.

Not being a title for which I was particularly motivated before its premiere, but that I ended up looking for a light and pleasant job that did not ask me to think much to pass the time, Bofuri for me surprise to end up being one of the animes that I have followed more rigorously during its quarter of emission, being a work that despite the cliché and generic that results in its premise, in turn has managed to be a title too affable to follow.

The series is an action and adventure anime with a good dose of comedy and slice of life, which boasts a theme of online video role-playing game (mmorpg) so seen in many other animes today, presents us as the protagonist of Kaede Honjou, a cute girl in every sense, cute and adorable but apparently not very bright, which despite not being very given to video games, ends up being driven by her best friend, Risa Shiramine, to enter New World Online, a new immersive online RPG that is gaining popularity, so they can play it together.

It is in this way that Kaede, now known under the nickname of Maple, ends up giving the game a chance, and as the title of the play indicates, she dedicates herself to create a character focused only on defense, under the excuse of not wanting to feel pain, A move that any other player with a minimum of common sense would see as a bad move, but that to everyone's surprise ends up going well for the girl, and that is that this configuration coupled with the particular and sometimes strange way of Mapel to deal with different situations that are put in front of him, lead her to get a follow up of super powerful skills, which quickly turn her character into one capable of breaking the game without much trouble, making the girl a name in a short time, thus earning the nickname of the walking fortress, and becoming in the process the nightmare of not only everyone who tries to face her, but also of the game administrators, who quickly see how this girl is doing havoc in the world they have created, not being able to predict what our heroine will do next.

Eventually Mapel, who initially started out playing alone, will eventually make a duo with her friend, who under the name of Sally, and to make sure she makes a good duo with Maple, will create a character specialized in attack and speed, demonstrated sooner rather than later than the same as her partner, She is not a normal player, living in this way some adventures with Maple, while they meet other curious players with whom they will soon make friends, beat powerful bosses, and participate in the events of the game, eventually founding together a small guild, formed by other freaks like them.

We have this way a series with some characters that really it is not that they have or final objective to fulfill, going the work of the diverse experiences that Maple goes having with their companions, while they strengthen and they go breaking more and more the game, granting us not only pleasant interactions among these characters at the same time as amusing and affable situations, If not also a good handful of action scenes, which unexpectedly and despite what one would expect from an anime of this tone, it ends up boasting an animation and choreography for the same quite well worked, which have nothing to envy to those of other works more focused on action.

Regarding the rest of the visual section, personally I have no complaints, delivering the anime with some generic but very attractive character designs, some well worked backgrounds and a nice color palette to the eye, while as far as music goes, the OST is pretty good, setting correctly and delivering a few musical themes that know how to make themselves noticed.

All this is a mixture of elements that end up returning to Bofuri in a quite pleasant work, which although it may not capture the interest of those who are looking for a more elaborate story or deep characters, being in this sense the anime a very simple and even cliché work, which really does not bring anything new to the table in any sense, for those who are just looking for something fun to watch, they will surely enjoy it.
